Easter Weekend 2012

Easter weekend was jam-packed full of Easter and spring birthday fun! On Friday we drove to my brothers house and got to visit with his family for the day. The cousins had a great time playing with each other. On Saturday, Grammy and Poppy met up with us for an Easter egg hunt then we went back to my brother's house to celebrate all the spring birthdays in our family.

Magnolia was a very sweet big cousin and couldn't get enough of little Logan.

On Sunday, we were back home and the Easter Bunny had visited our house. Chris truly amazes me with his creativity. He created a pirate map for the boys to help them find their clues to find their baskets. Their clues required them to change costumes before looking for the next clue. The boys had a blast!

Later that day the weather was perfect for an outdoor egg hunt. Colin was really sweet and left most of the easy eggs for Eli to find and even gave him hints as to where to look.

Then, since we were out of town earlier in the weekend, we colored eggs that afternoon. Usually the boys really enjoy the coloring of eggs, but I think this year they were too distracted by their new toys and Chris and I ended up coloring most of the eggs ourselves. Needless to say, we didn't really finish all 2 dozen. I don't think the boys even noticed.

We hope everybody had a Happy Easter!

Logan is 6 months

Over the last month, Logan has gotten really active. When he's on the floor, he rolls all around and is even starting to creep, pushing along the floor with his head. He's always reaching for toys and lunges to get to his brothers. He has also started sitting up! He still needs to use his hands for balance, but I think he's really enjoying the view. We've started feeding him fruits and vegetables and he has loved everything so far, except for prunes. He's still tiny but growing at a constant growth curve. He's now 15 lbs., 2 oz. and 26 inches long.

Colin is 5!

Our little prince is growing up! I can't believe our first baby is already 5 and about to graduate from preschool. At 5, Colin is extremely talkative. He wants to know what the plan is for the day, the week, the month, etc. and if there is no plan, he will get on that and make one. He is our negotiator and problem solver. If you tell him no, his next question is why, and once he knows why, he will figure out a way (in his head, at least) to get a yes out of us. This inevitably means that we have to use the dreaded phrase "because I told you so" or my favorite phrase from Love and Logic "I love you too much to argue". I have to admit that the constant negotiating and questioning can be quite maddening, but I keep reminding myself that these are really good life skills for him to have. Colin is also our peace-keeper and our rule-follower. He doesn't like conflict and is learning how to compromise and if someone (particularly Eli) isn't making good choices, Colin is there to let us know about it. Colin is super active and always moving around. He loves to play outside and is starting soccer in a couple weeks. He's measuring at 44 1/2 inches and 37 lbs., 4 oz. and although he only gained one pound over the last year, the doctor says he's healthy and doing great. Phew! At least one kid that doesn't need a specialist!

Opening gifts before school on his birthday. Eli picked out a stuffed Yoda to give him.

At school on his birthday. Here he's playing with shaving cream.
We brought star-shaped cookies decorated with blue frosting for his birthday snack.

Instead of a cake, Colin wanted to get Mr. Freeze for his birthday treat. He chose a chocolate milkshake.

Such a Daddy's boy!

Right now Colin loves everything Star Wars, so for his 5th birthday, we used that as his theme. We threw him a friends party at our local YMCA gymnastics center and he invited all the boys from his preschool class and few friends from outside of school. I feel like this party has been a really great learning experience for me and I know I'll do things different for future parties. I kept experiencing one debacle after another from problems with the favors, the cake, and the venue but Colin had a great time so I'm trying not to dwell on it. I can say that I will never buy another cake from the baker we used and I'm wary to host another party at the Y, simply because the party space was utterly filthy. Thank goodness we brought an unopened box of wipes and had a little bit of time to go to town on that place. Unfortunately that didn't stop the ants from invading the party..., but like I said, maybe we just won't do future parties there. I can say the kids had fun and got a lot of energy out!

What the cake was supposed to look like (with Colin's name, of course).

What we were given. Um, yeah.

Gymnastics fun!

Happy (belated) birthday to our sweet Colin - we love you so much!

Logan is 5 Months Old

At 5 months, Logan is my smallest baby weighing in at only 14.4 pounds (his brothers were weighing 2-3 lbs. more at this age). He is a very happy, go-with-the-flow baby. He loves going new places and meeting new people. He loves watching his brothers, other kids, or actually, anything that's going on around him. The other day I took the 3 boys outside to take a picture and I couldn't get Logan to look at the camera because he was too focused on the grass. He's getting stronger everyday but still can't quite sit on his own and chooses not to roll from back to front. He loves playing in his exersaucer and is enjoying tummy time more. He's grabbing at toys to put in his mouth and scoots on his tummy to get to things out of his reach. He has started eating solid foods. He is not the biggest fan of rice cereal and sometimes completely rejects it. But he seems to like oatmeal and I'm excited to start him on fruits and veggies in a few weeks. Logan has been enjoying the beautiful weather as much as the rest of us. He loves to be outside, going for walks, and riding in his Baby Bjorn while I run errands.

After watching his cradle cap and eczema come back while we were in Florida, despite continuing to omit dairy from my diet, I was happy to see that it did not get worse when I started eating milk-products again, and I'm thrilled to say that it has almost completely cleared up with our Spring-y weather.

The only complaint I have is that his sleep schedule is a little wacky. He's still waking up at night to eat once and sometimes wakes up additional times and needs help falling back to sleep. His naps are not on a strict schedule yet either because if he sleeps through the night he'll wake up for the day earlier than if he wakes at night to eat. However, I'm trying to let the sleep scheduling go a little bit until he's ready for sleep training and then, hopefully we'll be able to figure out a good sleep schedule for him. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy that he's happy when I'm not trying to get him to sleep.
